As they do not include any document titles, this reduced the width of the Windows 7/8/8.1 taskbar icons. When you hover the cursor over the Word icon a small thumbnail preview of its open documents is then displayed as in the shot below. For example, if you open multiple Word documents they are grouped in the W icon. You should see an option called Use small taskbar buttons. This will bring you to the new Settings screen in Windows 10. For Windows 10, you right-click on the taskbar and choose Taskbar settings.
